The State of Libya (Arabic: دولة ليبيا, Dawlat Libya) also known as Libya (Arabic: ‏ليبيا‎, Lībyā) is a state located in North Africa. It recently ended a civil war in 2011 and has experienced numerous civil strife, recently the problems have subsided with the re-invigoration of the central government.

HistoryEdit

Towards the end of 2013 the Libyan government underneath President Nouri Abusahmain and Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was faced with the resurgence of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party - Libyan Region led by Regional Secretary-General Abu al-Fadl Naji Boulos. The Libyan region of the Ba'ath party is closely associated with it's Syrian counter-part and sided with the Syrians in the 1961 split of the Ba'ath party. The Ba'athist gained military influence when the Chief of Staff of the Libyan National Army Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Jad Allah Al-Salheen Al-Obaidi announced his reformation of the Libyan National Army. Several Ba'athist including the brother of the Ba'athist Regional Secretary-General were appointed important positions within the Libyan National Army. In late 2013 the Libyan military launched an offensive against the various militia's which competed for control over the major locations such as Tripoli and Benghazi. Colonel Raheem Nazih Boulos, commander of the Benghazi garrison and Major Iqbal Faiz Al-Tripoli, commander of the Tripoli garrison launched attacks simultaneously against rebels and militias throughout the city eventually pushing them to the outskirts of the city. Political experts in Libya debated if it was in fact a military operation or the desire of Ba'athist to assert order over the country in order to appear attractive to the population for the elections coming in early 2014, as declared by the Prime Minister. Days after the military offensive in Tripoli and Benghazi the military throughout Libya launched similar attacks on rebel and militia with both the Ministry of Defense and the Prime Minister's office stating that they were all part of a larger military operation to re-gain control over the national security of Libya.

EconomyEdit

The Libyan economy suffered tremendously during the civil war and the post-civil war violence and instability didn't help the situation with the economy. The Libyan foreign ministry was tasked with reaching out to nations of the world and seeking both military and financial aid, despite the help of the West in overthrowing the Gaddafi government the government of Libya seemingly became more attracted to the East, namely Russia, Iran and China.
